-U-linen., 0? had H 12 HELMSMEN Front row J Cluston F Waxham M Walker P Mlller Second row H Weed J Thew R Lakness ml HROUGH the portals of Castlemont ln January 1932 came the five strong they were lmpressed by the grandeur of the Castle awed by 1ts lofty ldeals and thrllled by 1ts frlendly Splflt Wxllmg to work and to ut1l1ze the opportun1t1es offered them they developed accordlng to the bent of each 1nd1v1duals genlus from 1ns1gn1hcant sophomores 1nto people w1th d1st1nct personalmes 1nto leaders of student body act1v1t1es 1nto scholars and 1nto athletes As we glance over the Chronlcle of the class we find that much has been accompllshed because the class has always worked as a un1t under capable and efliclent leaders The Hrst officers were Bessle Obradovlch presldent and Vernon Klng v1ce presldent of the L 10 class As Hlgh Tens the formal debut 1nto Castle soclety was made on September 21 1932 when the gym was decorated wlth colorful blossoms and the sophomores danced the way to the1r Hrst soc1al trlumph George Cropley was presxdent of thxs class and Loule Ferrara was VICE presldent Upon bemg promoted to the ranks of Jumors Ike Depolo and Stanley Backlund served as oHicers The jumor Prom w1th Football as 1ts theme was held on November 14 1933 Dancmg was the ma1n attractxon but for those who d1d not dance there were games and speclal entertalnment Stanley Backlund and Norrls Ballment ollicers of the H 11 class were succeeded by Ted Flagg and Grace Parker as L 12 leaders A sw1mm1ng party and a theater party were held durmg thxs term Here we shall leave the class of January 35 about to embark upon 1ts last days at Castlemont We leave the class lmpressed by the enthuslasm and sm cerlty wlth whlch It undertook all of ltS HCt1Vlt18S whether soclal or serxous T v-5, - mm. , .ns 'NJ' nl-L , . ilietnarh ENIOR AFFAIRS the xery words convey the galety and the com radery the achlevement and the ant1c1pat1on that comes to the stu dent IH h1s senlor year Sen1or Affalrs the dmner the assembly the ball and the farewell all vull be ours to laugh over to Slgh over to remember 1n years to come Henry Weed presldent of the Sen1or class and Ralph Lakness vxce presldent assxsted by the Sen1or Councxl successfully executed all of the class 3Ct1V1t1CS whlch mcluded a skatmg party a dance a candy sale and a pom pom sale Members of the Sen1or Councml were jane Cluston Florence Waxham Marlann Walker Phyll1s Mlller Lloyd Havercroft George Pan tages and John Thew v The first gala event was the Sen1or Dmner on December 13 Never before had the srlver gleamed so or had the l1nen been so Whlte as upon thlS occa s1on Mldst holly and tmsel mxdst all of the good cheer and the good w1ll that IS created by the Chr1stmas atmosphere we dlned The toasts the Chr1stmas carols and the lovely Chr1stmas tableaux made the Sen1or Dmner an 1mpress1ve and enloyable funct1on Y Twelfth Nlght Revels 1n an old Engllsh manor house was a most clever and or1g1nal Sen1or assembly As decreed by the drawmg of a bean and a sllver penny from the Twelfth Case a kmg and a queen ruled over the merry sports and called for the mummers the dancers the mmstrels and the for tune tellers who performed 1n accordance wxth the old customs Later a sec ond semor assembly was held for the presentat1on of Castle awards to out stand1ng students and for the presentatlon of the class glft to the school The Sen1or Ball a colorful v1s1on permeated by the rustle of taffeta the ghtter of lame the sparkle of satln the rxchness of velvet the perfume of Howers the soft glow of llghts the entrancmg rhythm of the mus1c set 1n the dazzlmg whxteness of a w1nter scene all these made the Senxor Ball the very qu1ntessence of elegance and romance And then Commencement We Slt s1de by s1de gowned m purple the color of majesty Together for the last tlme we hsten to the speakers and we are lost 1n memorles of the days both merry and sad that we have spent together We llsten to the r1tual we smg the hymn together for the last t1me and we are 1mpressed We watch the presentatxon of dlplomas as we assocxate names w1th personal1t1es and thexr ach1evements We start the recesslonal and It IS then as we step down from the stage for the last t1me that we FCHIIZC that It 19 not the end for us thxs IS truly the com mencement , - v . ... y v .an 3 V 9 , . 1 I - v v , v v a - I 1 , v 1 v y ' Y Y . , . . , . . ,. .
