CHESS CLUB Members of this small, elite group spend many delightful lunch periods trying to master the ancient and intricate game of chess. In personal confrontation and inter-scholastic competition, with their cries of CHECKMATE resounding through the corridors, they carry the banners of Troy to new heights of glory and honor in wild battles of pawns, roolcs, and bishops. LITER RY LIGHT A new club on campus, the Literary Lights was formed to encourage and develop writing talent. Under the leadership of Cora Man- ese, a dozen students met regularly with Mr. Bennett, the advisor, to listen to, and eval- uate, poetry, essays, short stories, articles, and reviews written by club members. It is planned to present the best of theseoriginal literary efforts in magazine form before the school year terminates and to make this an annual publication. QUILL AN SCRGLL Quill and Scroll is a national honor society for the advancement of high school journalism. The more erudite and talented staff members are honored for the long hours devoted to keeping the student body and community informed through the campus media--the Trojan Trumpet and the Trojan Speculum. FUTURE TEACHER LUB The Future Teachers Club is composed of students who have an interest in becoming school teachers at elementary to col- lege level. The purpose ofthe organization is to promote this interest in teaching and to expose club members to activities which will enlighten them on various aspects of the teaching profession. All members, regardless of the level ot teaching to which they aspire, work part time as teachers' aids in the local elementary schools. Club activities are built a- round intra-club competition with the advanced players taking responsibility for helping less experienced players and novices at every opportunity.
