TROJA BATS SET METRO BEAT From early season performance it was clear that the T968 Varsity Baseball Squad was the best balanced nine fielded in Troy's short history. Standouts on the mound were senior John Preston who at presstime had already authored two no hitters, a 6-O drubbing of El Cajon and an 8-0 rout of Sweetwater, and iunior Hector Cebreros who, as a sophomore, picked up three of the four JV wins of the T967 season. At the plate, singing bats of Hector Cebreros, Ron lapala, Bill Preston and Mike Floyd evidenced Troy's growing strength in the hitting department. With power demonstrated in two of the three areas necessary for a successful season, only the third necessary element -- fielding -- posed a big early-season question mark. As the defense, anchored around the Sanchez brothers in the infield and Gene Harvey in the outfield, gelled Troy again proved to be a major Metro diamond threat.
