THINCLADS SINK SPIKES INTO METRO TURF Sparked by the stellar efforts of sprinters Gary Hargraves, Joe Rivas and Steve West, shot-put- ter Bill Hronek, pole vaulter Dan Willard, dis- tance runner Eddie Diaz, hurdlers Billy Daniels and Nick Sapanza, high jumper Bill Spencer and middle distance men George Carson, Ken Gunn and Fred Medrano, the l968 Track Team, under the dedicated coaching of head mentor Gray Elliott and his assistant Nate Wallace, posted new records in track ancl field competition. The thinclads' early season efforts were high- lighted by a THIRD in the JC Relays and an upset win over Sweetwater, both firsts in Trojan track history. The future looks even brighter since most of the varsity squad will be returning to the cinclers next year where they will be backed up by fine JV performers like sprinter Arnold Comeaux, pole vaulter Steve Underly, middle distance runner Louis Gaona, and long iumper Ralph Buna. Terry Griffith and Dow Becker listen intently while Coach Ralph Martin instructs them on the finer points of wrestling. MATME HARE TITLE The fighting JV, never scoring under 24 points in any match, posted a i0-l-l record for the season. Beaten only by Helix and tying the much-vaunted Spartans, they ended the Mat Wars as Metro League Co-Champions. Fine potential was seen in the work of Mike Gidney, with his iO-O record, including 6 pins, Dow Becker, unbeaten and tied once, Terry Griffith, with 8 wins and no losses, and Jesse Romero, with his 7-i record, in- cluding 6 pins. Other outstanding wrestlers were Richard White C6-25, Norman Kirk Q6- 4l, Andy Sanchez Q8-45, and Mitch Vander- griff. These grapplers pose a real threat to Troy's future mat adversaries.
