V S SOPH PREPARE FOR VARSITY Working forthe Future, the Junior Var- sity and Sophomore basketball squads made bright showings in every game. All ot those participating were looking to till the position and, hopefully, the shoes of a senior onthe Varsity this year. Keeping up with the idea of high school sports, they not only learned the fundamentals ot basketball, but also true sportsmanship and the Troian tradition ot winning . Showing high potential were Tom Jacobs and Bob Lucero on the JV squad and Lino Iulu on the Sophomore squad. TROY'S GRAPPLERS SHARE METRO CROW Individually posting a nearly-unanimous winning record, the tough Troian wrestling squad, led by John Hardy, with a i9-O record, including ii straight pins, Thom Bushhorn, with a i4-2 record, and Steve Domasig, with a iO-2 record, ended the season i0-2 in dual matches, losing only to Helix and Mar Vista. ln spite of a pre- ponderance ot sophomores at the lower weights, they ended the Metro League contests with only one loss, thus breaking a 7-year strangle hold on the Metro title held by the Chula Vista Spartans. John Hardy, a iunior, was the year's top grappler. At the Holtville tournament, in afield ot about 200, he picked up the i45 pound laurels with 4 straight pins and came out carrying a trophy For the most pins and the Out- standing Wrestler Award. With John Hardy, Steve Domasig, Jim Shaeffer, and Joe Valdivia returning to the Mat Wars, along with some real power moving up from the JV, next year's squad is certain to be TOUGH.
