'68 CAGE SQUAD HA GREAT YEAR Although pre-season underdogs, the terrific Trojans ended their court battles with a fantastic 24-5 record. In their brilliant fight for non-league, Metro and CIF crowns, they picked up a FIRST in the Kiwanis Tournament with an upset win over Chula Vista and a THIRD in the University Tournament, losing only to Lincoln, the 9th best team in the county, in a preliminary contest. In Metro competition, the terrific squad bowed twice to Chula Vista, number 2 in the county, and once to Hilltop, number 5 in the county, although dumping the Lancers in 3 out of 4 meetings. This was accomplished while playing the first I3 games without Ron Iapala, the Summer League's most valuable player, and with Ron, Gene Harvey, Chris Anderson, and Ray Chavarria missing games with iniuries or illness -- particularly disasterous in the last six season encounters when close ball games were deciding Metro and CIF standings. In CIF playoffs, Troy was paired with Mount Miguel, the number I team in the county and the number 2 team in the State, and, although defeated, was the only team to force the Matadors out of their devastating press.
