FRESHMAN BASKETB ALL TEAM Ieft to rl ht K Haluk A Beach I Iehman N Albert S Cood and D Dexter ATHLETICS IN RETROSPECT The 1901 U8 Castllleja athletic teams rank among the strongest of the past several years The basket ball tennis and swimming teams play ed games which merited the loyal support of the students The A basketball team had an undefeated season wmnlng two games and tylng one After tying Burkes our stalyyarts came back and played a su perlor game to defeat H3mllHQ Some weeks later Crystal Sprm s came to Castl long on quallty but short on quantity The A and B teams therefore had to split the ame The eventual outcome was a VICIOTV for CHQII In other games the B team won one and lost one They won a lop slded ylctory over Burkes but lot a close contest to Ilamllns The Fleshman team also enjoyed an undefeated season Thev play ed an intramural game HPHIDSI the eighth grade team winning easlly and they emer ed WIC torlous from their game against Crystal Sprm s The syummmg team competed ln 1 series of meets at the Woman s Xthlctlc Club ln San Francisco At this wr1t1n wlth one meet left our team IS ln sec ond place just tyyo polnts shy of first place We haye great hopes of being first ln the final standm The tennis team closed the season undefeated 1n four matches scoring wlns over Sacred Heart St Rose Burkes and Broadway At the Mllls playday on Aprll 19th our glrls also placed first On Aprll 23 27 the Hrst and second slngles and doubles and the fifteen years and under are going to Ojai to compete ln the annual tennis tournament In the prelxmlnarles for the Claremont finals Judy Brlg ham was the onlv ylctorlous Castllleja player She w1ll represent the School at Claremont on May 3rd The volleyball team has two games scheduled one wlth Palo Alto Hlgh School and one wlth Crystal Sprln s These games should be yery ex cxtln and yyln lo e or drayy the Castl girls will 1ye a ood account of themselyes Our victories would not haye been possible yylth out the unt1r1n help of 'Vlr Iong Her expert coachln and 3flYlC6 are exceeded only by her m terest ln our efforts As our COYTIIICIIIIXC athletic season closes yye take prlde ln our teams for thelr YICIOFIPQ but an eyen greater pride ln our player for their conduct and sportsmanship I K . , g I . , .
