at Q Almost completed Preparing for a iob Painting and decorating, as some of Carver's tradesmen choose to call it, is rather known as painting and paperhanging. YVith the improvement of the paint shop over the shop of previous years, with all of the new and modern equipment and materials, the young apprentice obtains a much wider range of knowledge about the types of ma- terials and their application, as well as information why some are suitable for specific purposes and other types are not. XVe learn the characteristics of wood and the art of the building trades. Painting and decorating is considered by many as one ofthe best trades because of the skills acquired in learning the usage of the spray gun, sanding machine, the techniques of hanging wall paper, refinishing furniture, mottling, stenciling and decorating walls. NVith the help received, master painter's texts, for example, F. H. Vanderwalker and Ralph C. Waring's writings, plus the information we receive from skilled masters of Carver, the apprentice becomes journeyman and soon obtains enough knowledge to become a master painter.
