LEST WE FORGET It seems that it was only yesterday when we first came to Carver so enthusiastic and thrilled about our first day at the new school. But it was three years ago. Now we are about to finish, to receive our diploma, and to face the world. YVe have always looked forward to and planned for this important event. Have you ever stopped to think what graduation really means? I would say that it not only means white gowns, tuxedoes, proms, and dances aloneg these are our pleasures, but on the other side seriously thinking, it means that we have completed the course we chose, to prepare ourselves for life experiences beyond high school, and are now ready to take our place in the world of work. Our problems in life will be much larger, more complex, more baffling, and perhaps entirely different from the ones we had in our school life. The greedy grab for power, the rush and tumult of money making, and the discouraging search for a job, all these and many more personal problems, may make us bitter and unhappy. Still we must strive to do our best. If at first we don't succeed, we must try again for success is no friend of the quitter. A baseball fielder would look silly throwing is his glove after he missed the ball, and a coach would scold him for doing so. just imagine Edison giving up because the first electric light wouldn't burn. The heights of great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, for they, while their com- panions slept, were toiling upward in the nightf, Use each mistake a stepping stone to success and rate it as an experiment, as a failure. The pain of our present troubles will be dulled by passing years and will be a lesson to us in the future. We must always remember that obedience, honesty, reliability, and dependability are traits that will aid us in being prosperous in our life's work. Now as we reach the top of the ladder of success shall we forget who made it possible for us to start this climb? Shall we forget our teachers who prodded us on when we would waste time during our class periods? Shall we forget the times we grumbled when we had home assign- ments? No, we must not forget. We may not think about all these things now but later we will long for the good old school days, the sound of the bells, the rushing at lunch hour, the times when reports were given out and the suspense and eagerness which possessed us on promotion day. Then we will appreciate and praise our teachers for persuading and urging us to do our work the best we knew how. We can show this appreciation by making the most of our careers and by doing all we can to uphold the name of our school. As the years roll on in the march of time when our school days become dull memories, we will have our yearbooks to refresh the precious memories of our teachers, our principal and of Carver which we hold so dear to our hearts.
