One of the most pleasant experiences a high school principal enjoys, is that of welcoming young people as they begin their work and observing them as they move on into graduation activities. It has been with a great deal of satisfaction that I have watched the growth of your class, of you as a group, and of you as individuals. Your growth, I am happy to say, has been satisfactory from my point of view. Unfortunately, as you have studied here and have acquired social and occupational competence, the world has become more and more confused. It is, in fact, more complex than it has been in our history. This means that you are graduating from Carver and that you are going out into the work-a- day world with problems ahead that will challenge you more than other high school classes were challenged before you. Many of you will be in the armed forces before another year passes. Others of you will find your- selves engaged in special war industries. All of you will be forced to adjust yourselves to emergencies of various kinds. It is my feeling that you need have no fear hi in wllk fwrmgi relative to these matters. The leaders of the country and of the United Nations will organize the people of the world in a manner assuring our survival. Of course, there will be major sacrifices. You have been schooled under situations calling for discipline and adjustments of various kinds. You should be able, therefore, to apply yourselves to the problems growing out of -var in Asia and, per- haps, war in the world. Certainly, you will put forth every effort to make the necessary adjustments. Your school will expect it of you. Your country will demand itg but, as you adjust yourselves to the armed forces, or to war industries, or to everyday living in our new economy, you must ever main- tain your interest and loyalty to your school. Carver will need your support through these trying times as well as through the days of the distant future. I urge you, therefore, to never fail in supporting your Alma Mater. May all of your endeavors after leaving here be satisfactory! This is my wish and that of your other teachers and friends. Sincerely yours, 62,4 my Lia. Tr'-me F Y am,-rt hi,--I z .. 1 JI .,, c' -.
