'I y L THE PRINCIPALS MESSAGE May, 1963 It is with genuine pride and pleasure that we present to our many friends the Tigonian, the 1963 Annual published, by the students of the Carver High School. The Tigonian is a record of activities of our school and represents experience in journalism, advertising, salesmanship, finance and business. Without such experiences the production of this annual would not have been possible. lmbeddedf between the covers of this our first annual are immeasurable episodes we hope will interest, inspire and acquaint you with the program of our school. I want to commend our Seniors and the student body for undertaking such a worthwhile and challenging task. Special citation and recognition must be given to members of the annual staff and advisors for completing this project while carrying on their regular' academic program. The transition of Carver from a junior high in 1954 with an enrollment of 379 students and 15 teachers to 1345 students and 54 teachers in 1963 has been interesting and unusually outstanding. This period has been vitally important to our students and especially our seniors who have been preparing themselves for responsibilities they must assume in the years ahead. Many individuals, groups and organizations have been most helpful to us in making this phenomenal stride. We point with pride to the close relationship between the homes, the churches, and our school. Our Parent Teacher Association has been continuously at our side for nine years, assisting as financially and morally. We are grateful to the Superintendent of Education, his staff, the Board of Edu- cation and many community agencies for taking care of many of our needs. The class of 1963 has the distinction of being the first to graduate from Carver. Since you are the first, you will have the distinct honor of being the first to make a name for yourself and your school. It is our hope that you will not only attain high standards of achievement for yourself, but will set higher standards of performance for those who come after you. ln this way you will bring praise and recognition to your school. Many of you have made worthwhile contributions while here. It is my hope that these contributions will serve as a challenge td you to ever hold high the standards of Dear Old Carver and help it to become a stronger and better institution. Since this is our first annual, we trust it will reflect the love, the hope, the aspira- tion, inspiration and devotion of our parents, students, teachers, and friends. As the members of the class of 1963 prepare to take leave, it is our hope that you will look back on years spent at Carver with a sense of dignity, pleasure and profit. We therefore congratulate you upon the completion of your work and wish for you success in your future endeavors. S. P. CHARLESTON Principal 3
