Q CARTHADIAN CARTHAGE CENTRAL JUNIOR-SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CARTHAGE, NEW YORK rr! i IN THE YEAR VOLUME MCMLXXII EDITOR'S NOTE As each of us departs into a new world, we will always recall our past years at C.C.S. Fears become relinquished. Dreams become realities. Moments become memories. For these rea- sons we have chosen Reflections as the theme of the 1972 Carthadian. Collection of the images, which should always re- main in your minds, has been our goal. I would like to thank everyone for his assistance and I hope that everyone reading this book is reminded of an era in his life that deserves recollection. Educa- tionally, we believe that new ideas should be given a chance-so the following areas were approved for experimentation: team teaching, a pilot program at Natural Bridge, varied reading programs and mini courses. Probably the most important long range decision made by the Board concerns a future building program. It is the concern of the Board to have an efficient, well-run school but more im- portant there must be an educationally sound program which tries to meet the needs of the students. Claire C. AF S CLUB The American Field Service Clubis purpose is to introduce the students of C.C.S. to foreign countries and cultures. This year we are fortunate to have Eugene Wallensky, from Australia, with us. He arrived in August and has been an active member of our Senior Class since that time. JoEllen Vargul- ick spent the past summer in Finland as an American Abroad. Both present- ed speeches to the students of our school. February 4-6 the club held a Winter Weekend for fourteen foreign stu- dents and seven American returnees. Students were guests in area homes and the weekend was very successful for all involved. This yearis club has been very active in fund raising with the sale of Tootsie Pops. We hope that as we reflect on the past year we will be aware that there is another world', and it isn't impossible to reach. 37 6 Eugene Wallensky imc' JoEllen Vargulick First Row: Norman Gagnon. The club has as its purpose the active sup- port of all the efforts of the students and fac- ulty of Carthage Central School, and the pro- motion of a school spirit of goodwill. Members of the organization feel that the need for rec- ognition is inconsistent with unselfish interest in the success of others, and unnecessary, in view of its purpose. Everybody at Carthage especially my American fami- ly, the Meisters, has been really great and finding friends has been really easy. As soon as l arrived in the U.S., it was apparent to me that people from all over the world are basically the same, and once we learn to communicate with each other the world will be a great place. eff I ' 52 g -x : ..
