POM-PON SQUAD The Pom Pon Squad participated in the Rangler Girl Invitational Drill Team Contest for the very first time this year. They entered two categories, Prop and Novelty. The Prop, a salute to Broadway, was a chair routine to Big Spenderf' The team came in second place. The novelty was a tribute to America. lt was done to a medley of songs including Over There , You're a Grand Old Flag , Yankee Doodle Dandy , and the Olympic Theme. The squad wore patriotic colors, used hand flags, canes, and decorated bar- rels. This routine, a favorite of the crowd, received a third place. Mr. Bill King, the spon- sor of the tournament, felt the Carterville squad did very well for their first time in com- petition. The team was also very busy performing at football and basketball games during the year. Parades in marching season were also a priority for the squad. Over all with Cap- tains - Tracy Spencer, Gail Johnson, and Amy Carney the year was an incredible suc- cess and the pom-pon squad reached new L., .,-v , I H , . i A 4 - i 'i H ' f' . The chorus sings at the Homecoming Coronation. CHORUS This year the chorus class has been very active in many different activities. They start- ed off the year singing in the coronation. That was followed by the Christmas radio show. The chorus class also had many students participate at contest. Along with solos and ensembles, the chorus class choreographed and performed a medley from the Broadway musical Cats. They also performed Cats in the Variety Show. The musical this year was the Wizard of Oz. The leads were played by Amy Hunter, Darren Nance, Brad Gentry, and Gail John- son. The chorus class worked hard and per- formed an excellent show. For the spring concert, the class performed a medley American Pop with all songs ranging from the beginning of rock and roll to the present day music.
