1927 BLACK DIAMOND 1927 The Herculean Debatmg SOC1Cty The Herculean Debatmg Soclety was organlzed durmg the latter part of the flrst semester ln 1926 w1th MISS Baker as coach A team of SIX was chosen to represent the school 1n the bxg debates The negatlve team won all thexr debates and the afflrmatlve team lost all of thelrs Th1s year Mlss Johnson was selected as coach At first the membershlp was small but the number grew to thlrty five the alloted membership The first semester the club selected Paul Dorr1s Pres1dent Janlce Lockre V1ce Pres1dent second semester Lawrence Damron was selected Pres1dent Ida. Carter V1ce Pres1dent Floyd Smothers Secretary and Rlchard Watson Door keeper A team of slx was chosen to represent the school ln the Conference debate The team was composed of Paul Dorr1s Lawrence Damron and Floyd Smothers tnegatlvep and Leon Lauder Kenneth Corley and Rlchard Watson taffirmatrvej The Conference debate was held on February 22 The neg atlve team went to Marlon and the aflirmatlve team stayed at home to compete with Eldorado Unfortunately both teams lost this debate but the good they derlved from the trammg w1ll be beneticxal to them ln the years to come The teams made a good showlng in the other debates that were of less lmportance and each member of the team was awarded a letter whxch he appreclates very much IS6 Charles Williams, Secretaryg and Lawrence Damron, Door-keeper.
