75'Dlaclf Doamond C ll S Glarterurlle -Bump Qlnmmg rl he first Home Coming ln the hlstory of Carterville was observed Frlday November 20 l925 It was a success both from a social and a flnanclal standpomt lt was a very Important event and the cltlzens of Cartervllle who were mterested ln the advancement of C C H S took part ln the celebratlon of the day The busmess men closed their stores ln the afternoon glvlng all persons an opportunlty to attend the football game where our boys were to meet those from ohnston Clty The corrldors and assembly of the hlgh school were decorated ln the old school colors blue and orange Vlsrtors gathered at school from 8 00 o clock to I0 00 At I0 00 the following two hour program was glven ln the assembly Music Hugh bchool Orchestra Loyalty Song audience Address of Welcome ames Hastre Response from Alumnl Mrs Paulme Wheatly Randal Talk Mr Martln Talk of hrst graduating class of C C H S 'Vlr Fred Walker MUSIC Hugh School Orchestra MUSIC Alumnl male quartet Music Boys Octette Muslc Cnrls Octette MUSIC both Octettes Talk Mr Chat Hampton Talk Mr Rlchart Talk Mr L C1 Cram Music Alumni Male Quartet After the program all vlsltors were asked to register but through some mlsunderstandlng many dxd not do so However they numbered two hundred or more many of whom were members of the Alumnl For some of the xlsxtors It was the first tlme they had taken the opportunlty to come to the new C C H S and thus event show ed Just what work was really going on and how Carterville IS advanclng After lunch there was a Grand Pep Meeting at whlch the boys were mtroduced to the crowd and music was furnished by the Rube Band After the pep meetlng the crowd went to the football held The game started at 2 30 o clock wrth much pep both from Cartervllle and ohnston Clty For a great part of the game our boys kept equal pace with the Johnston Cnty players holding the score to I2 I2 up untll the last two minutes when one of ohnston City s men surged ahead and made a touch down making the endlng IZ I6 m favor of ohnston Clty Cartervllle was of course dlsappolnted but not dns heartened and we are all waltlng for the next Home Coming S0 ' 4 .'. 75'Dlaclr Dsamond C ll S illztlluwe 211 Qlarmual The hrst umportant event of Cartervulle Hugh School resulted un a boomung success for the Senuor Class Thus saud event was the celebratung of All Hallows Eve at the Hugh School gymnasuum Fruday nught October 30 l925 Thus celebratuon has been tradutuon of C C H S for many years Thus year the celebratuon was guven un the fashuon of a Carnuval The doors opened t 7 00 and a grand parade started at 8 00 ocloclc Pruzes were guven for the most artustucally and comucally dressed people The judges had a rather dufflcult proposutuon un choosung because of the varuous types of costumes Sude shows uncludung, the Negro 'Vlunstrel and Gurls Nlusucal show furnushed good entertaunment to a great part f the crowd The remaunder of the crowd was kept busy by goung through the Spooky Hall way seeung the Suamese Twuns havung theur fortunes told tryung theur luck at the fish pond eatung and drunlcung at booths or buyung school souvenurs The crowd was also entertauned by free acts from the Negro Minstrel and by musuc from a clown band All these VHYIOUS thungs mentuoned along wuth the cooperatuon of the Senuor Class help of the school and cutuzens of Cartervulle and other cutues auded greatly un the success Martha washington Eva A Martha Washungton Tea was guven by the Hugh School Monday evenung Feb 22 l926 at the Hugh School gymnasuum lu was guven both as a socual and busuness affaur well establushed and wudely equupped lubrary us necessary and essentual to the wel are of any school s as a busuness affaur the tea was guven to uncrease the schools sbrary ln order to do thus the admussuon was set as a book or the pruce of a book Thus plan worl-:ed flue and the school us grateful for all boolcs both sent and brought nd apprecuates the large attendance especually of the older folks As a socual aflaur the tea was guven of course to entertaun and please the auduence good program was planned and guven wuth much success It consusted of the followung Orchestra Patruotuc song, by auduence Musuc by Curls Hugh School uartette Cafrles Nlunuet by eught Hugh School Gurls Other games uncludung Polo races and Menagerue Small hatchets were then passed and matched wuth others un order to fund your partner for tea and wafers whuch were served un the dunung room 79 Q , 0 of the Carnival.
