1 - COMMANDING OFFICER .5 7, fir.. mmander James E. McGovern is a native of Virginia Beach, Va. He is a 1988 graduate of Norfolk State University, and a 2006 graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Commander McGovern's initial fleet assignment was on the USS BARNSTABLE COUNTY CLST 11975, where he served as the 2nd Division Officer, Auxiliaries and Electrical, Navigator and Main Propulsion Assistant. While on BARNSTAB LE COUNTY, they deployed to the Mediterranean Sea, West Africa, and South America. Following K HM ,fr his tour on BARNSTABLE COUNTY, he was f f' H H assigned as pre- p 3+ commissioning O p e r a tio n s 't if Officer for the Uss Xl' NA TYPHOON CPC 5J.While es, ,tl on the TYPH ooN, X she completed I the first trans- A t l a n t i c crossing and Mediterranean deployment of a Patrol Coastal class ship. His initial shore tour was to Surface Warfare Officers School Command, where he served as Watch Standing Unit Lead. After Department Head School, he reported as First Lieutenant to the USS FORT MCHENRY CLSD 43, forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan. While serving on the FORT MCHENRY they participated in several multinational exercises with countries in the Western Pacific. His Second Department Head tour was on the USS BELLEAU WOOD CLHA 35 as the First Lieutenant also in Sasebo, J apan.. During his tour on the BELLEAU WOOD, the ship conducted humanitarian operations in East Timor and completed a hull swap with USS ESSEX CLHD 21. Following his Department Head C tours, ommander McGovern returned to sea to command USS KINGFISHER CMHC 561. While in command of KINGFISHER, they completed a deployment with Mine Warfare Readiness Group One to conduct bottom surveys of strategic ports on the U.S East Coast. . 'qw EXECUTIVE OFFICER Lieutenant Commander Nathanial J. Strandquist Sr ,Q ui Q I Ll ieutenant Commander Nathaniel J. Strandquist, Sr. is a native of Eureka Springs, AR. He is a 1994 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and received a Master's Degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University in 2002. Lieutenant Commander Strandquist's initial fleet assignment was on the USS CALIFORNIA CCGN 361, where he served as the CE Division Officer and Ordnance Officer. While on CALIFORNIA, they deployed to the Western Pacific Ocean and the Arabian Gulf Following his i'I,, tour on CALIFORNIA, he was assigned as Director of International Programs and International Surface Warfare Safety Officer on USS SEATTLE I CAOE 33, where he also served as Navigator. While on the F' SEATTLE, they deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and again to X A the Arabian Gulf. His initial shore tour was to Surface Warfare Officers School Command, where he served as Officer Course Coordinator. After Department Head School, he reported as Weapons Officer to the USS DONALD COOK CDDG 753 and then fleeted up to Combat Systems OfHcer. While serving on the DONALD .COOK they deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and again to the Arabian Gulf pflltlclpatlng 111 Operation Iraqi Freedom! Operation Enduring Freedom.
