One day early rn June 1 I larrlved by the traditional stage coach ln Dawson City Texas I stepped out of the stage coach and looked eagerly about the small western town which was to be my home I had Just bought the Bar B Q Dude Ranch which was the ideal spot for the people who want an exciting vacatron I then hailed a driver of a wagon and discovered xt to be my classmate from Carrollton High Bob Langer After con versrng with Bob for a few of the bumpy miles I drscovered that he was the foreman of my ranch When we reached the ranch Bob showed me around the house and grounds As I was about to retire to my room he gave me a lrst of vacauoners who would arrive at the ranch during the week Whlle I was checking the list one of the vacatroners arrived early It was one of my old acquaintances Manlyn Darr now a famous model from South Afrrca While chatting w1th Miss Darr a shining new lrmousxne rolled to a stop rn front of the ranch house and out climbed Woman Wrestler Martha fBonesj Logan with her manager Dave Miller I learned that Bones was recuperattng from her recent bout where she won the trtle Woman Heavy Weight Champion Martha brought news that Joe Johnson had tlred of chasing women and finally had settled down wrth hrs old flame Betty Ruyle Now the nelghbors complain about Joe practicing his voice lessons in the freld tnstead of doing his work By the t1meI had talked with Martha and had shown her to her room it was noon My cook, wearrng a large hat appeared in the doorway to announce lunch Imagine my surprise when the hat fell to the floor revealing another former classmate Russel Phrlllps While we were all enjoying a delicious meal we were interupted by the arrival of the wealthy Virginia Inlow who was mourmng her loss at Santa Momca Race Tracks It seems that she had been taken in by Mart Powell and hrs assistant Janet Camerer Miss Inlow had lost money on a horse ridden by Will Burger who was one of the top Jockeys of I I During the rest of the day the guests and I wandered about my newly acquired ranch Whlle we were enjoying the walk a cowgirl rode toward us on a horse As she approached we learned that it was Annie Get Your Gun Meldrum looking for a Job Since she was an old fr1endI hired Anne and sent her to do some of the chores I went back to the ranch house to await the arrival of other vacationers While I was waiting I turned on the radio rn time to hear a campargn speech by Sanfer always took her Job of president of the senior class seriously After the speech I heard a srngrng commercral by the one and only Cathenne Cunningham As I was about to turn off the radlo I heard the Newscaster Jeanette Baumgartner announce that the great Scientist Buzz Andrews Qwho was always a whrz 1n Chemrstryl had just returned from a rocket trip to the moon Accompamng him was B111 Underwood who announced the news of a fabulous uranium mme which they had discovered and which would make them mlllronrares After I turned off the ra d1o I was startled by ablood curdllng yell from the corral I ran to the corral and looked through the rails in time to see Moe Skaggs on one of the wildest western horses I had ever seen Moe was dolng well whlle he was on the horse but rt d1dn t last long as he soon had quite a fall After calling Dr Betty Bland from Dawson City to set his broken bones I returned to the ranch house rn time towelcome RusselCrochetr and Ronnie Reno Ronnie and Russel were now Joint landowners They had finally learned to get along with each other About Sundown Bob and Drck Pruitt came riding up to the ranch door they dismounted and went into the house Some one told me that they had made use of their same last names and had organized the Pruitt Candles Inc Their chief employee was none other than Norma Talley candy tester The next morning after a night of dreaming about high school days I welcomed two guests Miss Mary Rollins and Eleanor Journey They were teachers from our old Alma Mater It seemed that Miss Journey was resting from the tnals of her first grade class She had had a greatdeal of trouble wrth lrttle Percy Varble son of Ray and Delores Vandergnft Varble Miss Rollins was also restrn from her chores as second grade teacher where her cluef problems was Tom Maberry s rwms M1ss Rollins complained that the twins were to much like their mother the former Betty Tuey Mary and Eleanore also brought news of Lavina Varble Lavxna had opened a beauty shop rn St Louis where she featured the latest short hau cuts On the afternoon of that day the guests were all gathered rn the loungrng room watclung televrsron Flashed upon the screen were these words The new dancrng sensations Jewel Reynolds and Barbara Adnure 'I'hey demonstrated the Charleston dance and were dressed lrke the glrls in the gay 51 s After the performancel was called to the door and there before me stood June Newnom June was selling fresh fish at the door She had brought the fish all the way from the Illrnors River, but I couldn t turn her down so I bought some fish for our evening meal The guests then went out under the stars to sing by the open campfire and to eat thetr evening meal While singmg a cheerful song Janelle Maholland rode up to our little party as quickly as her hobby horse could carry her She had done everythrng possible to keep the aged faculty from leavrng the ranch When Janelle told them where we were they said, and I quote Oh don t disturb them let the kiddies have their fun 42 PO . 96 . . . . . .
