Although students feel a debt of grati- tude to these fine administrators now, it is in later years that they will more fully appreci- ate them. ' 4 I 1 ,1- Seniors Prqbamfbr Graduation Measuring for caps and gowns, order- ing pictures and announcements, and fill- ing out the diploma list are all a part of graduation as fifty seniors prepare to leave Carrington High School in May. Graduation at last--what an accomplish- ment--after working, playing, agreeing, disagreeing, and planning together. It has been a time filled with memories dear to a graduate's heart. Have Know How, Will Show How, the senior class motto, could well have been applied to any year of their high school, for certainly their accomplishments have shown a know and show how. Interest in many worthwhile activities was manifested by this class early in their freshman year. Traveling along their high school highway, these seniors in the past have acquired many awards in speech, journalism, music, FHA, dramatics, DAR, and in letters and trophies in sports. As juniors the group planned and staged a very beautiful prom, Stairway To The Stars . Gliding about on the dance floor to the strains of the latest hit tunes, everyone, it seemed, could touch the bright stars of his dreamworld . The class found that their hard work resulted in an enjoyable evening for all. Evidently the class still had the prom on their minds this year, for they chose mid- night blue and silver, the prom color scheme as their class colors. The bluebell became the class flower. Attaininga great measure of success in producing their junior play, the class the fol- lowing year really showed know how when they presented their senior class play, Teen Time, in an outstanding performance. Ably leading his class as president for the second successive year, Don Nicolson had good cooperation from jerry Liddle, vice- president: Don Kanwischer, secretary- treasurerg and from the other class mem- bers . Mr. Sletten and Mr . jones wisely coun- seled the seniors in their many activities. Responsibility was placed squarely on their shoulders when the group became seniors . Among other things, the class of '59 chose the declamation winners of the grade and high school contests held through- out the school year. I0 1 P A willing trio, our iiiends. They are active members of Pep Club, GAA, Sentinal, Cardinal, FHA, band, choir, twirling corps, and sports. Indeed, if the organization is worth belonging to, there you will find juniors . Many are also officers in the numerous clubs. The junior class play Rest As- sured, presented on December 15 and successfully coached by Mr. Carew, was a smash hit. Under the able direction of their class advisors, Mr. Rathe, Mrs. Hennessey, and Mrs. Berglund, the juniors sponsored a very beautiful and successful junior-senior prom in the spring. As the members became more experienced they developed into a very fine foot- ball team. Hard work, determination, and good coach- ing were instrumental ln producing the final recon! of four wins and three losses. , Perhaps the hardest defeat came from the Harvey Hornets when they trounced the Cards 13-0 at their home- coming game. Never-the-less, the power of the Cards made lt a team to be reckoned with throughout the con- ference. Although next year's team will miss the graduating seniors, Coach Martin has a promising young B-team who will uphold the football aspirations of C.H.S. Coaching positions were again ably filled by Morris Martin and his assistant, james Keranen, who provided the punch to do a job well. Naturally we feel that the three gala events - the Diamond Jubilees in James- town, New Rockford, and Carrington were highlighted by our Carrington band. Homecoming, the Foster County Fair, and the mid-winter concert are just a few of the other big events in which our full band participated. Making lively the basketball crowds is one big job of our Pep Band. They have also furnished Music for groups which have entertained the fans at half time. The full band, small groups, and soloists will be going to the spring festival at Devils Lake soon. We are sure they will bring to our school ratings to be proud of for a long time as they have done previously. Much entertainment has been furnished by our Majorettes and the new baton squad. At basketball games, at pep assemblies, and at P.T.A. these attractive girls have shown real talent in their well-rehearsed routines. All in all, we must say the Carrington band is busy at all seasons of the year. 36 BOYS QUARTET R Young C Gilje I Slet ten R Sllkev SOPHOMORE SEXTET Mitchell Cruchet Torscher Galehouse Eastburn Krueger Students Enjoy Vocal Muszc Program 'Q'- GIRLS QUARTET P Pep ple I Kallberg B Schlmke G Anderson BOYS GLEE CLUB ROW 1 Di rectorMr Land1s R Leopoldt S Beaudoln C Schutz ROW2 T McCarty I Plerce R Hayashx D Kanwxscher ROW3 D Alf stad D Forsberg R Engberg G Aljegp R Hale ROW4 A Boyurn D Land T Tennyson D Galt I Pahl R Sxetz if 16 ' fm IU' Q 5 Q 9 8 F gt .Q I J f F .E 3 ' 5' gi 'Q if 'sem , -GA ' S. . Honesty, character, leadership, co-operation, and physical fitness formed the basis on which students were chosen as candidates to Boys' and Girls' State, held in Fargo and Grand Forks re- spectively. Three students were chosen to attend NIPA in Grand Forks this year. Here school papers and yearbooks from school throughout the state were judged . The Sentinel received a rating of good at the Grand Forks meet. Columbia rated or placed it in second place. X Lysne. Eighteen students are mem- bers, some of whom were holdovers from last year. Quill and Scroll, an international honor- ary society for high school journalists, is advised by Miss Fyllcen and Mr. Lysne. The group is composed of juniors and seniors who have done special work for the Cardinal and the Sentinel. In the course of the year an initiation ban- quet was held, adding eleven new members. 'Riddle Me Riches' is the title of the three-act comedy presented by the senior class on May 9, 195 8, under the direction of Miss Johnson. Being the winner of a radio quiz show to the tune of 320, 000 in prizes proves to be discomforting for Chuck Taylor and his father. Because Chuck has been successful in a previous contest, his father works hard on a riddle for the 'Riddle Me Riches' program. After they win the contest, the next two weeks are hectic for the family. Among the gifts that they receive are hundreds of boxes of candy and cans of soup, a live horse, a basement full of puppies pink house paint, and musical instruments with which Chuck almost drives the neighbors crazy. To climax it, they get a visit from Marla Kay, a movie star with whom Chuck falls in love, ignoring cute Suzie. Everyone has a few heartaches, but a profitable lesson is learned. CAST Marla Kay . . .
