COMMANDER JAMES R. MILLER UNITED STATES NAVY CDR James R. Miller is a native of Amagansett, Long Island, New York. A 1977 gradu- ate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he majored in History. Following the completion of the Surface Warfare Officer's School CSWOS5 Division Officer Basic and 1200LB Steam Main Propulsion Assistant Courses, his first assignment was in USS DUPONT CDD 9415 where he served as Main Propulsion Assistant, Navigator and Operations Officer. From 1981 to 1984 he served with the Saudi Naval Expansion Program, Fleet Introduction Team, Cat Little Creek, Virginia5 as Ship's Liaison Officer in HMS AL FAROUQ CPGG 5135 and HMS BADR CPCG 6125 and, later as the Staff Material Officer. Graduating from the SWOS Department Head Course in October 1984 he reported to USS CARON CDD 9705 in December of that year as Engineer Officer. He was transferred' to USS YORKTOWN CCG 485 in August 1986, again as Engineer Officer. CDR Miller re-' ported to the Surface Warfare Officer's School Command in Newport, Rhode Island in Au- gust 1988 and served as the DD 963 Engineering Training coordinator, Engineering Del partment Academic Assistant and the Gas Turbine Training Division Officer. CDR Miller reported to USS KLAKRING CFFG 425 as Executive Officer, serving froma February 1991 to June 1992. His most recent assignment was on the OPNAV Staff, as Head, Surface Warfare Community Plans and Policy Section CN869C5 and as Deputy Head, Surface Warfare Manpower and Training Requirements Branch CN869B5. Joynson was born in Paterson, New Jersey and attended schools in BrickTown, New Jersey prior to attending the United States Naval Academy. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering and was commissioned in 1982. Lieutenant Commander J oynson also holds a Master of Sci- ence Degree in Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. Lieutenant Commander Joynson's sea assignments were as Damage Control Assistant and First Lieutenant in USS FRANCIS HAMMOND CFF-1067D. Following Department Head School he served as Combat Systems Officer in USS REID CFFG-305 and as Main Propulsion Assistant in USS TARAWA QLHA-lb. Lieutenant Commander J oynson assumed duties as Executive Officer in USS CARON CDD-9705 in November 1995. Lieutenant Commander Joynson has served ashore as a Deputy Program Manager for the Advanced and Base- line TOMAHAWK Weapons Control System in the Strike Systems Department at the Naval Surface Warfare Cen- ter, Dahlgren, Virginia. His personal and service awards include the Navy Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal Hu- manitarian Service Medal, and Kuwait Liberation Medals. Other awards include the Joint Meritorious ,Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation and three Battle E Awards. AEXECUTNE OFFICER I
