Master Chlef James Jewell entered the Marine Corps in October 1066. Upon graduating from basic training at Pars Bland SC and Camp Lqune, NC he went to Racioman A School at Son Diego, CA. Upon graduation he received his first permanent change of station orders to Camp Del Man Oceanside, CA. After approximately 9 months he attended special training for duty in Viet Nom. He was transferred to the Repubic of Mer Nam where he served for 27 months with 7sr Division Recon. Following his tour in Viet Nam, Master Chief Jewell was sent to Camp Pendelron, CA where he was separated from the Marine Corps. Following a Cl year bteals in service, Master Chief Jewell enlisted in the Navy. He attended Machinists More 'A' School in Great Lakes, lL, After graduation he was transferred to New London, CT where he went through the Basic Submarine .School Next he went to Charleston, SC to attend the Submanhe Auxilaryman Paclrage Course. Upon completion of this course he reported to his first sea taut aboard the submarine U55 James K. Poli' CSSBN-6-452. After completion of o 5 year tour there he was transferred to Declsley, WV, where he was the non-commissioned officer in charge of the testing section at the Mtilrafy Enisrmenr Processing Srarion. At the completion of his taut of duty he was assigned to the Performance Monitoring Team of Submanne Squadron 16 at Kings Bay, GA. At the completion of the 3 year tour at Squadron lo, he was assigned a 4 year tour on the U55 Henry L. During the first 6 months of the assignment he was the outside repair LCPO. There he was promoted to his present rants of Master Chief Petty Ofhcer and tools over the position of Repair Deponment Master Chief. After 2 years at the Trldenr Rehr Facilily he volunteered for the Command MOSf9f Chief Program. Upon his acceptance into the program he was assigned to the U55 Caron IDD-9702 in October 1990. Since being assigned to the Caron, he has been deployed to Desert ShieIdfDesert Storm, various counter narcotic operations, and a a month Mediterranean deployment. Master Chief Jewell's personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Achivement Medal with two Gold Stats, Combat Action Rhbon C2 awardsb, Presidential Unit Citation, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal K5 awardsbt Marine Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal C2 awardsl. Viet Nam Service Medal C4 awardsb, Southwest Asia Service Medal C3 awards7. 590 Service Deployment Ribbon C5 awotdsb, Republic of Viet Nom Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Viet Nam Gallontry Cross Unit Citation, P-epublic of Viet Nom Campaign Medal, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Expert Rifleman Medal, and Expert Pistol Shot Medal. Master Chief Jewell is married to the farmer Linda M. Arthur of Brookville, IN. They have 3 children Paul, Jedd, and Jarod The Jewell'5 reside in Virginia Beach, VA. This was Master Chief Jewell 3 final deploymenr prior to hs retirement fiom Naval service.
