GO0DING NAVY A native of Overland Park Kansas Commander Go d' ' ' , , o mg rorned the Naval Reserve in November 1969 while a student at Kansas State College Pittsbur K g, ansas. After graduation, he attended Officer Candidate School in N ' ' ign on 3 August Commander Gooding's first duty station was USS Forrestal fCVA-597, where he served as Assistant Auxillaries Officer. ln February 1975, he reported aboard USS Beacon QPG-995 as Engineer Officer and later served as Executive Officer prior to decommissioning of the ship. Commander Gooding's first shore tour was at the University of Oklahoma where he was assigned as an associate professor of military science for the NROTC program. Subsequently, he served from luly 1980 to December 1981 as Weapons Officer in USS Comte De Grasse QDD-9747. He next served from lanuary 1982 to April 1983 as First Lieutenant in USS Mt Whitney CLCC-203. ln May 1983, Commander Gooding reported to Commander, Navy Military Personnel Command, where he was assigned as the Amphibious Placement ewport, Rhode lsland where he was commissioned as Ens 1972 1 , V. YB?- l l, -.VA X 1 4bfC,T1'7 X TA, Officer for Navy. ln January 1986, he returned to sea duty as Executive Officer in USS Arthur W. Radford CDD-9683. Upon detachment in June 1987, he reported as the Force Officer Personnel Coordinator for the Commander. Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet and served in that capacity until March 1990. , , . Commander Gooding's personal awards include the Mentonous Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal fthree awardsj, and the Navy Achievement Medal ttwo awardsl. He holds an academic degree of Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Arts Education. On October 18, 1990, Commander Gooding assumed command of USS CARON CDD 9705, becoming the seventh Commanding Officer since her commissioning in 1977. Commander Gooding is married to the former Mary Janell Hart of AIKHHSHS City, Kansas. They currently reside in Chesapeake, Virginia with their two children, Heather and Christopher.
