SENIOR STORY The great day of graduation is here! We, the proud class of 1962, gather together to record our final appearances as students in thesehallowed halls. Our eyes gaze wonderously into the future and our memories review happily our past experiences in high school. We arrived timid and uncertain as Freshmen, wondering if we would ever hold a position of dignity in this great institution. Dur- ing our first effort toward making the Scholarship Carnival a suc- cess, we worked enthusiastically on the Hula Hoop and Cakewalk concessions. In the Spring of the year we staged our first dance with an Egyptian theme. It was a project worth remembering. As Sophomores we showed our intellectual ability by topping the honor role. We provided an alternate cheerleader, and the boys took an active part in athletics. In our Junior year, after turning our enthusiasm from a success - ful Carnival to raising money through concessions and a student directory, we started planning the annual Junior-Senior Prom. Under the supervision of JoAnne Oliver and Nancy Bibb the gor- geous round French ballroom with its billowy ceiling and crystal chandelier, plus the magnificent gardens where refreshments were served, carried out the theme to perfection. It was a Prom long to be remembered. The girls who participated in GAA that year proudly received trophies: one for the basketball championship, and one for the hooky Championship. We also contributed two Cheerleaders and two Songleaders. In our Senior year we worked energetically on the Scholarship Carnival and Carnival Dance, which were the most profitable in the history of Carmel. Our reigning couple--Queen, Karen Reed and King, Steve Shore--won through tight competition by the auctioning of Senior boys as slaves for a day and by cake sales. In our year as leaders, we have done well accademically. Three of our classmates, because of their scholastic standing, were able to take the Russian language at Monterey Penninsula Junior College. As the year drew to a close we were accepted at many different colleges all over the United States, and some of us are planning to leave on trips to other parts of the world. Yet whether we go on to college or move into the busy world, our graduation from high school marks only the beginning of learning. For we now are stepping forward to become adults, trained and ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow. 19
