De 'spute warn‘t ‘bout a half a chile, de ‘spute was ‘bout a whole chile; en de man dat think he kin settle a spute ‘bout a whole chile wid a half a chile, doan'n know enough to come in out'n de rain,” Well, this here teacher we're talkin’ bout she knows the whole chile, and she believes in us and she thinks that us chiles is good, too, and that's Mrs. LaVonne OM Bursvold. In her eleven years at CHS; she fae HG spent maybe twenty years of teac hi eae time. Nine years were devoted to devel- oe oping the singing groups. When she began ‘there was a hodgepodge choir; when she finished there were Hive precision parlor ue ing groups. d She is, however, known now for her recitations in English leh te oe 3 American literature. Why that little lady cud bake any- thing interestin'; and by-and-by, we'd | learn som'pin', too. She cud take ah silly ol’ noun and give it more action than a frilly skirt on a chorus girl, an’ sides that, when she learned us bout a book, why the whole thing ‘ould come , to life like that old ram when my grand- father bent over to pick up his dime. Having this “little lady” as a teacher at CHS is a real pleasure. We believe she teaches students, and not just subjects; she has made many of us believe in our- selves, perhaps because she believes ate the whole chile. And with these things. : in mind, we dedicate the 1974 Purple Shield to you, Mrs. La Vonne Bursvold.
