The C. I. F. champion Varsity Basketball squad
was undoubtedly one of the best to come out of
Carlsbad High School. Coached by Mr. "Dim"
Poradosky, the team posted a 17-3 season record.
The losses came at the hands of Fallbrook and
twice to Oceanside. The third time that the
Lancers played Oceanside was in the C. I. F. Class
A final, where they defeated the Pirates 63-54.
Along with capturing the C. I. F. title, CHS also
won the Fallbrook Invitational Basketball
Tournament for the second time.

that there were no giants on the squad. Because
of the size of the team, Coach Poradosky
stressed three things, speed, a fast break, and a
full court press.
All league players included seniors Sam Thayer,
who was also the leading scorer in the Palomar
League and Johnny Herrera. Making the second
team were junior Danny Lundhagen and sophomore
Louie Montanez. Richie Langen was on the
honorable mention list with 138 points in the
season.
