Friends of Millard Fillmore Triviality at Its Best What was the restaurant in which Popeye ' s friend Wimpy would dine out for a hamburger? What is the dog l id ' s love to bite ? Who was the 13th president of the United States? However easy those first two questions may be, the last one is probably the most puzzling when we tell you that it was Millard Fillmore, born in 1800 and the most unknown president ever to hit this earth. That ' s why, in his honor, the Friends of Millard Fillmore Trivia Club chooses each year to search pointlessly for insignificant and quite unimportant answers to what were inane questions in the first place. This year ' s president, Jenny Lapin, led Carlmont ' s team Millard ' s Kids to a 6th place out of 14 (pretty good for Carlmontl] and once again captured the prestigious Belmont Cup. This weekend-long event began Fri- day afternoon when the bonus round was held; Carlmont ' s spirit showed through as we cheered especially for ourselves and wore our ceremonial togas. That set off our determination to slaughter some of our rivals including Notre Dame, Sequoia and a special team that came down from Oregon. The weekend was composed of running to libraries to get some essential but trivial information, and even to some Perrier distributors to get documentation on the world ' s first soft drink . The Carlmont team was on time with their answers too, which is a miracle. Even though none of the members will prob- ably ever eat pizza or cookies again, you can be sure that they will remember the two long nights spent searching for answers to ambiguous questions, run- ning around trying to find a Wheaties box with one certain picture on it, and most importantly, getting together with their zany friends to have THE ultimate weekend.
