WHAT IS THE EVENl NG OF EXCELLENCE? Program of Events The Evening of Excellence Awards Dinner is to honor students from East Palo Alto, Menio Park and Redwood City for their acadennic achievements. These students have maintained a minimum B average while taking regular and accelerated honors courses. This event is the joint effort of the South San Mateo County Branch of the NAACP and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Peninsula. The purpose of this event is to support and encourage those students who have shown academic promise but need more positive reinforcement to fully develop their potential. The Evening of Excellence is a serious effort at bringing all of those significant role groups together at one place and time in recognition of our youths ' academic achievements. WHAT IS THE HIGHER HORIZONS PROGRAM? The Higher Horizons Program concentrates on social and academic development of select students at Ravenswood Middle School. Through a combination of role model- ing, esteem building and academic encoLiragement, the program provides the moti- vation and support to STAY IN SCHOOL and thus increases the student ' s chance of realizing his her potential. There are four components to the program; Middle School Program, Mentor Program, High School Transition Program and Summer Program.
