By the end of the eight-win, one-loss season we not only had tied for our first league championship but had buried our closest rival, Sequoia. It was the first time in our nine-year var- sity football history that we had defeated the Cherokees. For that matter it was the first time in more than three years that anyone had beaten them. During the season the Redwood City Tribune chose six athletes of the week. Of these, three — Andy Sears, Chuck Hunt, and Rick Brown — were from Carlmont. The same three were elected to both the All-SPAL, and All- County first-string teams. Greg McHuron, Jim Wright, Andy Sears, and John Watts earned positions on the SPAL second team. Barry Venditti and Jerry Golins received Honorable mention. Chuck Hunt was elected both All- SPAL and All-County player of the year. When the South Peninsula sports writers got togethei to vote for the Coach of the Year, Dick Storm was unani- mously elected. The coaching story has its own bit of in- terest. This is Coach Storm ' s last year at Carlmont. Next year he will be in the world of business. Actually the de- cision was made before the start of the season, after sev- eral years of consideration. Coach Storm credits the whole team with the effort needed to win the championship. This year there was a close harmony among the players, as well as between them and the coaching staff. Movies were taken of eyery game and shown to the team every Monday in an intensive chalk talk.
