Math ematics Under the new chairmanship of Albert Hansen, the math department continued teaching the new School Mathematics Study Group courses, besides advanced math courses that include trigonometry and elementary functions in theory and equations. The Wiebe General Math course, conceived by a former Carlmont teacher, was also taught. Industrial Arts Carroll Jensen Chairman Leo Campey Dennis Herschbach William Horstmeyer Charles Scribner The industrial arts department is di- vided into three main sections: drafting, wood shop, and metal shop. In the first and second years of drafting, the student receives a broad view of the subject. The third and fourth years train him for placement in industry. First-year shop is divided into a semest- er of metals and one of woods. New equipment this year includes a shaper in metal shop and a bandsaw in woods. EXCHANGE STUDENT AND TEACHER FROM MARS. Music The band, orchestra, and choir per- formed at many functions this year, in- cluding the Christmas program, Band- o-Rama, and the spring concert. The music department introduced team teaching this year. Both Russell Reed and Gerry Einarsson worked with the same class to enable one of them to give individual assistance. Business The business department offered a series of classes designed to give students a head start toward successful careers as secretaries, accountants, stenographers, of- fice machine operators, and salesmen. Be- sides conventional methods of teaching, the department used control readers, tape recorders, and musical records.
