Language The language department this year continued its program of audio-lingual instruction. Tapes of native speakers were used to increase students ' audio compre- hension. Two teachers raised the department staff to 18. Still the basic courses were World Geography (9th grade), World Back- grounds (10th grade), U.S. History (11th grade), and American Institutions for one semester (12th grade). Ph ysicol Education The girls ' PE program was reorganized this year from class rating to ability rating, based on a series of physical tests given last spring. The purpose of these groupings was to challenge the highly skilled and to im- prove the less skilled. For the first time, all incoming freshman boys were given a three-week course in first aid.
