The Story of the Year With satellites and rockets soaring into space, more thought, time and energy were given to education and scholarship, and the educational renaissance, begun last year, affected students and teachers alike. Teachers cracked down and made students work harder than ever. Students worked, trying to live up to the Cal Merit Award given to Carlmont this year for the grades maintained by ' 58 Carlmont graduates attending the university. In addition to scholarly gains, Carlmont opened 10 new classrooms in the T wing. Fifty parking spaces were added on the Alameda to accommodate the ever increas- ing student body. Carlmont will be remembered not only for its scholastic records but for its activities, the dances, rallies and assem- blies, sports events, and its campus. Office Amid the flutter of yellow slips, cut slips,, report cards and couri ' selor slips, the courageous office staff worked diligently to keep the administration of the school going. With students constantly complain- ing about everything from report cards to ailments, these ladies had a job preserving their sanity. Maintenance The difficult job of keeping the school fit for human eye- sight was done by a group of valiant people who had to pick up after clean students, not-so- clean students and downright sloppy students. Once in a while they had to clean up a sloppy student. Long after the majority of the culprits who mess up the school had left, these people were hard at work repairing the damage. Cafeteria Amid platters and pots, the ladies of the cafeteria prepare lunch for the finicky students who mob their sanctuary every lunch period. They worked very hard every day to make lunches that would appease any pupil ' s great appetite.
