I . mr. eitien counsels dan grener, applicant to the air force academy. 48 history class of ' S6 we, the class of ' 56, began our high school years not only as carlmont students, but as the first freshman class of carlmont high, throughout the past four years we have strived to promote a strong spirit and a loyal student body. as freshmen, we sought to fit among the other classes of sequoia, eagerly anticipat- ing our eventual move to carlmont. with the buildings near completion, and the time for our transfer imminent, we helped plan and carry out the successful task. during the so phomore year, sports played an important role in our schedule, ninety per cent of the baseball team was made up of our boys and the winning of the p. a. I. has given us much credit, shortly following that, was our receiving victoriously the festival day trophy, which could be gained only through thoughtful preparation and an abundance of class, as well as school spirit, the ending was then climaxed by a terrific sophomore day, with a more terrific turn out. junior year was finally reached; the goal of upper classmen attained, and with it, the promise of a memorable year, first on the agenda, was scheduling the junior prom, money raising projects sprang from everywhere β€” selling cookies, organizing rummage sales, the multi-purpose room was chosen as the location, and through the able hands of its decorators, any possible resemblance between the room and its ap- pearance that night was unimagniable. yes, the job had been done well, and the banks of paris had reached carlmont with the theme rendezvous cache , shortly after that, came the junior ' s magazine sale, which helped greatly in financing the travel group from carlmont. toward June, preparations were again set out for winning the festival day trophy, but, although we did well, the competition was high and sec- ond place became our bid. and so we arrived to our senior year β€” our final days at carlmont. a great year was planned; a greater year experienced, once again raising funds came first, high finance projects, such as the sponsored senior movie and the dave brubeck concert, held large attention, and proved the strength of our capabilities, our senior ball was not to be beaten, we intended to set the pace, unforgetable was the theme, and unforgetable was our dance, senior week flew by; barbeques, picnics, and practice marches brought ever near our remaining hours. we, the class of ' 56, while ascending from our four years at carlmont will have much to recall, many wonderful times to remember, we, the class of ' 56, look proudly at our deeds, and stand proudly on our merits. 49 the Crocker estate in hillsborough was the site of the second annual senior ball, unforgetable, held on febru- ary 18, 1956. music for the event was provided by ray hackett and his band. the highlight of the evening came when lynne elder was crowned queen by ray hackett. this dance was one of the most memorable in carl- mont ' s history due to the enthusiasm and careful planning of the senior class. unforgetable couples sign the guest book in the foyer. ray hackett crowns queen lynne elder. 5Q couples dance to the music of ray hackett. garlands of carnations are suspended from the balcony. view of the ballroom from the second floor. 51 senior ball committee senior ball committee: audrey ball, aleene bafsford, lynn moyer, and lynne elder. senior week committee: enid cheavens, aleene ba+sford, don chishoinn, lynn moyer, and lynne elder. senior week committee senior week was planned by the senior week conn- mittee. activities for the seniors are: a day at adobe creek, barbeque, breakfast, and an assem- bly to be given for the whole school. 52 last year ' s ceremony was smooth and efficient due to the planning of the comm-ittee. left to right: Barbara wicklow, dick white, and enid cheavens. the graduation committee was responsible for planning the commencement of the class of fifty- six, among the things they have done are: the selecting of announcements, picking the theme of graduation, and the coordinating of the speakers. graduation committee 53 Ed Adams Delores Alter Don Anderson Emma Lou Arthur Jim Ballentine Charles Backman Ken Bailey Jim Barbieri Craig Barrett Carol Bartlett Andrea Becker Ken Beddow Mark Bergman Sandra Berne Gayle Berry Jim Bilund Mary Bones Don Booher Don Brockway Terry Brooks Meredith Brwn Nancy Brugger Ralph Buffa Marjorie Burgess George Cameron Marsh Campbell Ron Canty Claudia Carlisle Audrey Carroll Clay Center Ken Chastain Jo Ann Clark Larry Climie John Cockrehem Jerry Cohn S β– ] JkO. . - ' J K i.
