Two years ago, Mr. John S. Cartwright became
superintendent of the Carlisle schools. Patient and
understanding, he eased thestrain that a period of
adiustment necessarily brings. Now with every depart-
ment of our high school pulling together for the
common good, there is, thanks to our superintendent,
a happy combination of skilled direction and willing
To Mr. Cartwright belongs a rare administrative
ability which his years of experience has developed
richly. This ability is going far to make our Carlisle
schools the best.
We have great admiration for Mr. Cartwright's
fine judgment and his keen interest in all of our
school activities. His faithful service and his concern
for our welfare have won the deepest respect of the
Class of I948.

MR MARK N. BURKHART
Mr. Mark N. Burkhart is familiar to all high school students.
It is he who draws up our class schedules, keeps our records,
and approves our absences from class. We see his careful
planning behind every event on the high school calendar. The
students have found him to have an interest in their activities,
and they look upon Mr. Burkhart as a friend and adviser.
Mr. Harold E. Hench is holding the position of acting
assistant principal for the first time this year. All iunior high
functions are supervised by Mr. Hench. He also helps with the
Student Council. "The Student Council," states Mr. Hench,
"should be a sounding board for school opinion, it should be
able to arouse student interest and participation." The
assistant principal plans all the guidance programs and is the
guidance counsellor. These programs are helping to build the
kind of citizens ,who will be a credit to C. H. S.

Acting Assistant Principal
