Q 1 A K K . - .sawn-is R it Qtibe Greater Qtarleton - 5 0 CARLETON students of the pres- ent generation an unusual privilege has been granted. Ours it has been to wit- ness the growth of an ordinary decade come into full bloom in four short years. The building of the new gymnasium, the New Carleton Spirit in intercollegiate contests, the broadening and enlarging of 'Q college activities,-athletic, for- ensic, literary, musical and so- cial,-the endowment campaign, with all its great significance for - the college, these and other scenes have passed upon the stage in rapid succession, crowded into one short act of our life history. Truly, if tritely, great things have happened. What does it all mean? l-lave we run our race? Or do the events of today but presage even more notable years to come? If we turn again to the world of events, we find that Carleton's outlook for the future never was brighter, never did the vision of the Greater Carletonu assume such definite form. ln every field of activity we feel this reaching out for something larger. If we turn to athletics we see the N ew Carleton Spirit winning footf - ' ball games against almost insurmountable odds, we witness the beginnings of championship teams in basketball, we see a growing interest in gymnastics and track work, a wholly unprecedented enthusiasm over baseball. If We turn to public speaking we see Carleton, with its new chapter in Delta Sigma Rho, standing among the leading institutions of the nation. Or if we turn to things lit- erary, to things musical, to things social, we find the same condition exists. There is but one conclusion, the present is freighted with meaning for the future. Unfortunately, we do not possess the prophetic vision of an Isaiah. We can have faith, however, that the days to come will have much to bring to Carleton. Such a faith means that every one of us will give our best to the col- lege, in order that it may the more fully realize that larger sphere of usefulness which the Greater Carleton hopes to achieve. Every individual, whether he be the Carle- tonite of yesterday, today or tomorrow, must be the loyal defender of the Maize and Blue. ln the literary society hall, on the athletic field, wherever he may be, he will feel a new sense of responsibility, a new devotion to his alma mater. The spirit realized, and the endowment campaign completed, then will the Greater Carletonn be assured. To the achievement of this noble end the Algol hopefully I 4 rfb 'A L25 ii 4 5: I' i ir'-' i Eu -:-3521 sm. . i. gl.: 1 S.. ew. Zigi 'Pars ser. 5' :.g, Ski 4 PLE., ,i:,. s. .Q .
