This year's 1987 Homecoming week theme was Blast from the past . Many people dressed up in 1950's outfits, stoneage outfits and 1920ls attire. A lot of festive activities went on during lunch time and after school. One of our security guards, Ron Johns, Preacher , was chosen by the student body to kiss a pig. When he kissed the pig, Preacher said, It didn't feel too good. l did it because I didn't want to let the students down. In an after school parade, JROTC, Pom-Line and Flagline performed and of course we had some great floats by the cross country, ski club, cheer, black student union and the freshman class. The winning float was the 1950's by Mea- cha. Yvonne Reyes said, I am happy because of the hard work all the members put into the float. Sophomore class float came in second place which was the 1920's, gangster times. At the game, the Homecoming King and Queen were announced. The Queen was Letty Yslava and King was Jesse James. lt was a big thrill for the couple and for the crowd. After the game, the Falcons celebrated by having a dance. Ev- eryone enjoyed the dancing and had a great time. This year's Homecoming was a blast, Rockin' rollin' back to the 50's Yvonne Reyes and Maria Pineda sit down to sip their soda while listening for the results of their winning float. Flagline struts their stuff during the Homecoming parade. As gangsters Frank James and Sharon Reyes make a run from the roaring crowd, they slip away to their hide-out. Homecoming Activities 9

Student in Government Brett Zaenglein, a senior, who was a congressional page in Washington D.C. this past summer, went through a process of filling out applications, writing an essay and partaking in a major interview to get this summer job. Only one of 300 students that applied for a position as a page got to be one. Zaenglein said this job was exciting and had many memorable times. Zaenglein, who was in Washington D.C. from July 10 until August 16, 1987, stayed in a dorm one block from the Capitol where he spent his days delivering documents in Congress. Zaenglein earned a monthly salary of S884 a month which he used to pay for his air fare, room and board, food and clothes. Zaenglein said, It was exciting being on the house floor while congress was in session and it was an honor being pointed out by tour guides to tourists. Zaenglein also said it was exciting getting a personal tour ofthe White House by a Secret Service employee and going to the very top of the capitol dome with Congressman Kildel. But most of all Zaenglein enjoyed making friends with people from all over the U.S. Brett wonders . . . Are you ready for the future, America? Zaenglein is working his way to the top as he poses with fellow pages in the Long- worth Building on Capitol Hill. Brett practices for his first press con- ference as President?
