The Climb To Success In the fall of 1953, a crew of nineteen, willing and fearless freshmen, began their climb up the mountain of success. They had their ideas and enthusiasm set for the top, and with their guide Mr. Jones, they began. They were, Karen Rathman, Jim Sorensen, Jim Woitazewski, Betty Caswell, Wayne Johnson, Betty Spiehs, Kent Powers, Larry Spotanski, Shirley Stoeger, Leona Schweitzer, Elda Schweitzer, Laberta Schweitzer, Sharon Hendrickson, Jerry Johnson, Sam Reed, Ray Stutzman, Jo Ann Runge, Virginia Swanson, and Donald Hadenfeldt. With much ability and will power, they did exceptionally well and reached the mountain's first plateau, during that year. After a short rest in 1954, with Mr. Hagan as their guide, they began on up toward the top. A short way up, three members, Sharon Hendrickson, Jim Woit. , and Jo Ann Runge, took air sick and hooked a passing plane for other mountains. They progressed rapidly, and another member, Ray Stutzman, couldn't stand the altitude and so he parachuted to safety and found work. Closer to the end of the second plateau, Bonnie Giffen and John Holley came floating in and joined the crew, and.then they ventured on, never looking back. They reached the second plateau soon and a new leader. Miss Johnson took charge of the Crew. Just as they began a new member, Bub Worman, dropped in and helped carry the load of the third year on the mountain. They soon stopped on a ledge to get some capital for their supplies, by giving the play, If Mother Only Knew, which was a great success. While there, they gave the Junior and Senior Banquet, which also was a success. As they ventured on Larry Spotanski, and Bud Worman sighted mountains in the distance and left the crew to try them. They soon reached their 3jrd and final height before the top and with Mr. Colman as their guide they started toward the final goal. As they neared the top, John Holley left them and ventured to a different mountain. Just in the last few feet they stopped to give the play, Yours Truly Willie,” which inspired them on. Class Will We, the Senior Class of 57 , being of sound mind, memory, and understanding, and being desirous to settle our school affairs, do make, publish, and declare the following our last will and testament, To Mr. Hagan, we will an old bottle of glue to fix his glasses with. To Miss Link, we will a.governor for her Mercury and hope she uses it well. To Miss Wimberley, we will our ability to quiet down in English class and to make scrapbooks. To Mr. Colman, we leave our worn out typing erasers. To Mr. Nelson, we leave the $14.93 debt which may or may not be paid. To Mr. Hohnstein, we leave the green freshman basketball team. To next year's seniors, we leave our Regards and Regrets. To next year's juniors, we leave our good looks and ability to study hard. To next year's sophomores, we leave our slightly used books, desks, and chewing gum. To next year’s freshmen, we leave our honorable position in old cell block 72. To Harold, we leave our unread educational notes of many a desire and many a joke. I, Virginia Swanson, will my muscular form to Bobby Kirk. I, Sam Reed, will my good looks to Marvin Welty. Don't forget to shave twice a dayl I, Jim Sorenson, will my ability to stay away from girls to Roger Burry. I, Shirley Stoeger, will my ability to laugh at nearly all times to Janet Stairs. I, Karen Rathman, will my feminine ability to get a diamond to Rita Waddington. I, Wayne Johnson, will my extra curly hair to Dick Hayden. I, Kent Powers, leave the 13 pieces of gum under my desk to Steve Burry. Hope he likes the flavorl I, Don Hadenfeldt, will my height and basketball ability to Leroy Schweitzer. I, Betty Spiehs, will my big blue eyes and my ability to flirt to Kay Caswell. I, John Holley, will my ability to run the mile to Dean Swanson. I, Betty Caswell, will my ability to get along without sleep to Sandra Schlund. I, Laberta Schweitzer, will my personality to Leda Stutzman. I, Jerry Johnson, will my studying ambition to Jerry Schweitzer. I, Elda Schweitzer, will my ability to get along with the teachers to Betty Beckler. I, Leona Schweitzer, will my quietness to Carolyn Hawk.
