On the day of a football or basketball game, we enjoyed cheer- ing for the Terriers at the pep rally which was held the last part of seventh hour. Assemblies were always an extra in the school day and were welcomed by students and faculty. Due to the increased number of students, two lunch hours were in operation and we looked forward to meeting our friends in the cafeteria either fourth or fifth hour. f, S W l Y J . li la, it P if Our school was a busy place at night, too. Sex- eral clubs held regular evening meetings in addition to those held during the activity period. Play re- hersals and activities of stage and lighting crews meant long hours at night. The Carbondale Community High School students' social life was very active during the 1956-1957 school year. There were the usual highlights- Home- coming. the Sno-Ball dance. and Prom: these were the special events-cornplete with formals and corsages. The decorations were beautiful, especially to those students and faculty members who worked so hard pre- paring for these dances. The queen was crowned at midnight, the band played the last song of the eve- ning, and the dance ended, leaving with the students many happy memories. The week-end brought the informal gatherings and parties that were so much a part of extra-curricular activities. The big and little sister parties, club parties, supper parties, slumber parties, picnics, coke dates, square-dances, liayrides, after-the-play parties - all became part of the school life and held an active part in the students' schedules. If there was not a party on a Friday or Saturday night, the average student would be found at the main local hangout- teen-town. The blaring ol' the julie box could be heard for blocks-the stomping of the jitter-buggers feet grew louder and louder- the clanging of coke bottles could be heard above the popping of ping-pong balls. VVho will ever forget the good times we had during the year at the various social activities of C.C.II.S. Nlany Clubs, including the Dial stalf, had fall picincs. -lea-rv Students enjoved participating in plavs. Pictured here is part ol' the cast ol' this year's .lunior plav. Junior class members explored new fields, learned new skills As juniors we have had a busv, exciting vear. During football season, we manned the concession stands, and became nearfprofcssional money-makers. llomecoming, with the auditorium decorated for the festivities, and our attendent taking her place in roval court, was our first important event of the year. After football, we concentrated on basketball and supported our team faithfully, although we were often engaged at the concession stands selling hot dogs and cokes, or checking coats. The junior play, lime out for Ginger, was the next big attraction in the minds of the juniors. Those participating worked hard to make it the great success that it was. There were other activities to keep us busy, but the highlight of our Junior vear was Prom. With the help of our sponsors, we enjoved working on the decorations to make the 1957 Prom sensational. Xlanv of our juniors received honors for their outstanding achievements during the past vears, the highest honor going to those who were chosen for membership in the National llonor Society. .Xs juniors we assumed a great deal of responsi- liilitv, and looking back over the vear, we find memo- ries of fun and friendship. and the satisfying know- ledge of a job well done. We hope that our Senior year will be filled with as nianv happv memories. Top: The sponsors of the class of '58-Mr. Bowan, Mrs. Mc- Gowan, and Mr. OH-look over the class records.
