MRHHM a Wm t l llllllllll ' k-a THE BRIDGE Cape Fear Technical Institute Wilmington North Carolina Building The Bridge A pilgrim going a lone highway Came at evening, cold and gray To a chasm, deep and vast and wide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim. The chasm held no fears for him But he paused when he reached the other side And built a bridge to span the tide. “Old man”, said a fellow pilgrim near, “Why waste your time in building liere? Your journey ends with the close of day You never again will pass this way. You’ve crossed the chasm deep and wide Why build ye here at eventide?” The pilgrim raised his old gray head, “My friend, in the path I’ve come”, he said, “There followeth after me today A fair haired youth who must pass thjs.Nyay. The chasm which held no fears for me To the fair haired youtli may a -pitfall be. He, too, must cross in the twilight dim. My friend, I am building this bridge for him.” O William Droragoole Foreword This edition of The Bridge is significant in two ways. Of most importance it is the first one. We hope that as its pages are perused, each student will feel a little closer to his school; and he will be glad to have been here. Secondly, this school is a bridge over which those seeking skills can cross into the areas of job security, better pay, and advancement. The technician and the tradesman can graduate from our school and suddenly be in demand, whereas before, he perhaps had no saleable skill. These graduates and our current students are our greatest assets. This first edition is dedicated to those who have crossed or are now crossing the bridge. 4 Table of Contents Foreword Page 3 Table of Contents Page 5 Board of Trustees Page 6 Administration, Staff, And Faculty Page 1 Associates in Applied Science Page 21 JJ ndergraduates-T echnical . . . . It has seen the need for a revision of the constitution and has worked toward that as a principle goal. Student senators and representatives have worked on various other committees that were organized to bring the student body together into a more united spirit. The main difficulty that the student government has faced this year is the apathy toward school unity on the part of many of the students. But in spite of this, our student government association has worked hard for the betterment of our school. We cannot ask for anything more. 75 Your Student Government In Action Ugly men on the campus contest winners- John Harmon, Faculty— Nixon Howard, Students Christmas jelly bean counting contest winner Ray Beard New Hanover County Fair display- Second place CAPE FEAR TECHNICAL INSTITUTE STUDENT GOVERNMENT BALLOT PRESIDENT SECRETARY ( ) Arthur Brown ( ) Carrie Wiggs ( ) George Brown TREASURER VICE-PRESIDENT ( ) Gene Haddock ( ) Bill Applewhite ( ) Josh Hardison ( ) Pierre Bonnescuelle de Lespinois ( ) Sandy Parnell ( ) Dw ' ight Squeaky” Kelly The voice of the students 76 Yearbook Staff L-R: Carrie Wiggs, Charles Hunnicutt-Advisor, Dianna Strom, Patricia Ferguson Out of all this comes a yearbook Trying to make the picture fit 77 “The Seadevil” Staff Lairy Ferguson Nixon Howard Editor Asst.
