N ew courses give Cp. to traditional liberal arts as departments plan future rTp caching self-discipline, en- -•■ hancing vocabulary and grammatical development, improv- ing communication skills and in- creasing world awareness and ap- preciation for the arts were al goals of the liberal arts, according to Spanish teacher Mrs. Judy Tet- ley, chairperson of the language department. The liberal arts departments looked ahead, as they made plans for the next school year. According to Mr. Don Miller, English department chairman, plans for freshman and sophomore English included Developmental English I and 11, to be added to regular and honors sections. College prep electives for ju- niors were to include humanities, American literature and Shake- speare. General electives would in- clude science fiction and fantasy, detective fiction, school publica- tions and speech. Plans included a performing arts department, which would add advanced theater and television production classes to the basic courses offered in those areas in 1986-87. History additions planned in- cluded U.S. history, both regular and advanced. Economics, psy- chology and The Law and You were also planned. Introduction to Social Studies, formerly re- quired, was to become an elective.
