A vareity of styles were offered including a murder mystery entitled Sorry Wrong Number. An ex- tremely wealthy woman who is handicapped over- hears plans on the telephone for her own murder and is left to await her inevitable fate. A comedy entitled Lifeguard is a satire about political corrup- tion. A state beach is patrolled by two lifeguards who are not able to swim! Shirley lackson's play about tradition and values entitled The Lottery is the clincher of the evening. First written in 1948, the play's ritualistic stoning of an innocent citizen shocks the audience. Q 1. Mrs. Stevenson lEvelyn Halusy in Sorry Wrong Number listens to the planning of her own murder. 2. Lifeguard Lenny tlohn Hernandezy scans the scene at the state beach. 3. Hazel Dunbar lCheryl Mastersy nervously watches loe Summers tSteve Kouriy and lack Wilkins tBrian Burkey prepare for the drawing of The Lottery. 4. Another air-crash occurs in Oregon and kills 40. Amusement parks also have their problems. A young woman falls to her death from the super roller coaster, Colossus, at Magic Mountain. The number one amusement park, Disneyland, doesn't go unmarked either. A small boy falls from the people mover. Two well-known Southern Califor- nia figures both undergo major surgery. jerry Dun- phy of KABC Channel 7 endures open-heart sur- gery. He spends eight weeks recovering and returns to anchor the 5 81 6 o'clock news. john the Duke Wayne, undergoes surgery for cancer of the stom- ach. Another local star loved by millions every- where passes on at the ripe old age of 17. Morris, the 9 Lives star, goes to a finicky reward of heav- enly tuna surprise. Happier notes in Hollywood in- clude the city's 75th birthday. It is celebrated by the re-building of the great HOLLYWOODQLANDJ sign. Other birthdays include Mickey Mouse, the beloved rat of children everywhere, and Charlie Brown. Mickey turned the golden age of 50. Dis- neyland and Disneyworld both throw big birthday celebrations as well as a cross-country train tour for Mickey. Charlie Brown's birthday is marked by a television special. A couple of movies make the news as well. National Lampoon's Animal House changes the entire image of colleges everywhere. Toga parties become the fashion of the year. A re- make of Superman has set some tongues to wag- ging. It is said to have excellent special effects. On the television scene, Battlestar Galactica and Mork and Mindy become the favorites of people every- where. Both are based on the current space fad. Because of the special effects in Battlestar and the sound effects in Mork they have become unani- mous favorites. That was just a few things that went on in the world. We added it to let you know there's more to life than school.
