The 1978-1979 pep squad was kept busy year- round cheering for football, basketball, wrestling, swimming, water polo, andsoccer. Preparation for the new school year was begun by attending camp at Santa Barbara during july. In addition to motivat- ing the crowds at various sport events, the pep squad also adorned Canyon's campus with many brightly colored spirit posters. Likewise, the varsity locker room and football players' homes were dec- orated before C.l.F. games. Pep rallies also helped to keep C.H.S. students enthusiastic. Through hard work and spirited involvement the songleading squad captured third place during competition at camp, Once school began, they presented many dance routines featuring kicklines and other intricate movements. Their routines were performed to the songs Macho Man, the U.S.C. Fight Song, Shout It, ZS or 6 to 4, and Shame The songleaders also competed at Miss Drill Team U.S.A. in February. Going to the KEZY radio station and cheering was one of the most memorable moments for the varsity cheering squad. Each cheerleader had an opportunity to talk on the radio and then perform a special KEZY cheer tas a groupj. Other memories include getting the barrels to football games, the or- ange dresses which were supposed to be gold, football send-offs, tunnels, Something Special, and the Secret Pal Breakfast. The l.V. cheerleaders, on the other hand, had the job of providing encouragement for junior varsity team. The ponies at camp and the Villa Park pep as- sembly are two events which will always be re- membered. The j.V. squad also had to adjust to a smaller squad after cheerleader Sandi McCage moved away through the school year. The sophomore cheering squad had the essential spark needed to arouse spirit in the class of '81. Squad memories include cheering at both C.l.F. and Homecoming games, Lisa falling in the mud, and the homecoming luncheon with the previous year's squad. 1.
