The girls' swim team competed in two pre- season meets and one league meet. Canyon's first meet was against Fullerton with the varsity losing 81 to 88 and the junior varsity winning 83 to 33. Kelly Howarton, Diane Hud- son, and Lisa Scottoline received firsts in their events on the varsity level, and Ginger Gartrell received a first place in diving. junior varsity first place finishes were received by Lorna Hursman, Bobby Deal, Lisa Vineyard, and Cathy Erickson. The girls' first home meet was against Valen- cia. It was very successful with varsity winning 98 to 59 and junior varsity winning 98 to 5. All the swimmers competed well with each girl taking at least a first, second, or third in her individual event. Canyon's first league meet was at Orange. It was a great victory for the swim team with the varsity beating Orange 79 to 27. It was a close meet all the way, and the determining points res- ted on Kindra Feliskey, Ann Smode, Kathy Leo, and Diane Hudson- the 400 free style relay team. It was a close race all the way, but Canyon came out ahead by winning their first league meet. 1. Before diving practice, Amy Swett does a warm-up breaststroke with the team. 2. Practicing breaststroke times is sophomore Patty Slaton. 3. During workout Lisa Scottaline executes the butterfly. 4. Anticipating that first jump is Cathy Leo. 5. Bouncing the board for warm up, junior Ginger Gar- tnell prepares to execute a difficult dive. 6. Ann Pence arrives at the wall while Kim Cambell leaves the block in the varsity 200 medley relay.
