The Comanche junior varsity baseball team proved themselves after. successfully conquering the Indio high school Rajahs 3-1 after a 4Vz hour bus ride to Indio. The j.v. team exhibited unbelievable talent against Norco in miserable overcast weather. Dave Lewis demonstrated fantastic fielding abilities throughout the season. The Comanch junior varsity played its first Century league game against El Modena at Canyon under the direction of Coach Dan Brady. In a tough battle against the Vanguards, the Comanches lost 4-3 in an eight inning season opening game. Catcher Coy Glass displayed re- markable catching and throwing throughout the game. Along with other members of the team, Bill Hayson played excellently as shortstop and pitcher. The team ended with an impressive batting average and demonstrated fine sportsmanship through the year. The Canyon's sophomore team started the 1979 season with an aggressive offense, strong pitching, and a solid defense. The team, scored 47 runs to the opponent's 19 runs. The team, in the first six games, won 5 and lost 1 with an amazing 61 stolen bases. Team leaders on the offense were Norm Egle, bat- ting .421 with 13 runs batted in, Matt Lamph, bat- ting .471 with nine stolen bases, and Rene Rodri- guez, batting 500 with eight stolen bases. The pitching staff was led by Dan DeShano and Ray Larkins. Both pitchers threw hard and have good control. Combined they struck out 54 batters in six games. Defense was led by Todd Bergman, catcher and team captain Norm Egle, Tom Hull, Rene Rod- riguez, and Dave Satterly. 1. Sophomore Ron Fardig eyes a grounder in his outfield position. 3. With a look of determination, j.v. pitcher jim Braddock throws one of his fast balls. 4. The sophomore team put in many hours of practise attempting to improve their batting averages. 5.
