Both teams dem- onstrated a great deal of talent and enthusiasm in the sport and will prove to be an incredible team in the years to come. The junior Varsity wrestling team ended their sea- son with a win over Villa Park with a 37-26 victory to capture the Century League Championship title. The Comanches won the Canyon Invitational junior Varsity Tournament on january 13th. It was a day of brillant wrestling for the Comanche Matmen. The IV team started off their season by crushing St. john Bosco, 56-0. They followed it up with a 40-15 win over Garden Grove to the junior Varsity team into the finals against top rival El Modena. The final score was very inspiring, ending with Canyon 43 El Modena 19 as the Comanches proceeded in de- vouring the Vanguards. Tim Brinton was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Mt. San An- tonio College j.V. Tournament. Bob Shatney, Steve Horchar, Steve Malloy, jeff Eto, and Daryl McAlmond also did an excellent job on the j.V. team. The j.V.'s ended with a 15-5 season and 6-1 league record. The Sophomore wrestling team ended up with a second place in the Century League with a 6-1 league record. The Sophomore team beat Tustin with a spectacular score of 45-15 and Santa Ana 56- 5, just to mention a couple of the Sophomores' outstanding matches. Darryl McAlmond, jim Sun- dali, and joe Deterding were amongst outstanding wrestlers, along with Mike McCormick and Garret Powell who also wrestled with the Varsity team. The Sophomores ended their year with a 10-3-1 season record. 1. junior Varsity Wrestling Team, Front Row: Steve Horchar, jeff Eto, joe Villanueva, Russ Tucker, Scott Witke. X K The Comanche soccer team had a very difficult season this year. The team was under the direction of Coach M. Delgadillo and Coach D. Dejbakhsh, The junior varsity soccer team was coached by Mike Carter. The highlight game was against Santa Ana Valley. Goalie Robert Morton, saved twenty-six out of thirty attempts at the goal, in a difficult game which ended 3-4. Canyon played Valencia in the first game of the season. Goalie Tom Shirly played an outstanding game, with twenty-seven out of twenty-eight shots at the goal saved, to tie the score 1-1. Nadar Dejbakhsh and john Beurskins were named Century league first team. Ralph Butz, Rob Morton, Tom Shirly, and Sam Stephens were named Century league second team. Century league honorable mentions went to Ron Snyder, john Borger, and Steve Labrador. Na- der Dejbakhsh, Rob Morton, and john Borger were all named Orange county North-South All Star nominees. The Comanche soccer club awards included: de- fensive varsity player-john Beurskins, and offen- sive player--Nader Dejbakhsh, j.v. defensive player-Carl Dick, j.v. offensive player-lim Schultz, sophomore defensive player-Steve Ambuehl, of- fensive sophomore player-Brett Muiter and Scott Conne was named most improved player. The high scoring soccer test went to David Amirteshami, and the 12th Man award went to Sam Stephens and Ke- vin Eddy. 1. Canyon's varsity soccer team. 2. lohn Borger sneaks a kick against Villa Park opponent. 3. Nader Dejbakhsh makes a side sweep kick. 4. David Meish and an opponent get tangled up in a dribble. 5. Ralph Butz comes up with a good move on the ball. 6. lon Curtner demonstrates a great blocking play.
