'MA ll SI Concluding with a season of six wins and six losses, Canyon's swim team had a substantial sec- ond year. Under the coaching of Ted Ondracek and Steve Anderson, Dale Turner qualified for CIF diving competition, the first Canyon swimmer to do so. Other outstanding season performances in- cluded senior Chuck Lay who set four individual records, among them the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events. Additionally, senior Ron Cheser broke all Canyon records in the 200-yard individual medley, a combination of butterfly, backstroke, breastst- roke, and freestyle. Cheser was also one of the four swimmers who set Canyon's new 400-yard team medley relay, along with Vaughn johnson, Wayne Ozaki, and jim Marion. Since only four seniors-Ron Cheser, Ron Gil- lespie, Chuck Lay, and Dale Taylor-will be leaving, coaches Ondracek and Anderson look forward to next season as a culmination of the past season's groundwork and training. 1.
