Canyon's junior varsity cross-country team fin- ished its season winning five consecutive meets. This record shows great hope for next season. Overall, Canyon finished second in the Century League with a record of 12-2. Canyon suffered its only loss early in the season to Foothill. As the sea- son passed, Canyon gained competition experience 5 and looks forward to avenging its opponent next year. - ' Canyon was paced by sophomore Delaine Pierce who was voted Most Valuable Player. Other award winners were: julie Mann, Most Improved and De- laine Pierce, Most Inspirational. Canyon's varsity cross-country team will be over- powering next year with these strong runners. 1. l.V. The girls' varsity tennis team finished third in their first year of competition in the Century League. With their league record of 10-4, the Comanches won the honor of participating in CIF under Vicki lsaacson's coaching. Sue Bugalski played in the number one position most of the season with her amazing record of 39 wins and 3 losses. Sue's tal- ents enabled her to be named the Most Valuable Singles player at Canyon and the MVP of the Cen- tury League. Diana Carman and lacque Nelson proved to be a winning combination. Besides being the number one doubles team at Canyon, the two also made the first All-League Team. One of their most memorable moments of play came in a tie-breaker situation against the number one team from Tustin at League finals. Diana and lacque won the match, 5 to 2. Many other outstanding players aided the Com- anches. Anne Thibert, who was named the Most Improved player, developed great potential through the season. Robin Burke, Most In- spirational, always kept the team's spirit soaring. In addition, the varsity tennis team created many enjoyable memories. Such an occasion was when Coach Isaacson called an early morning practice and it turned out to be a reception for the team in honor of their qualifying for CIF. Vitality and deter- mination are absolutely essential for the winning game of tennis as portrayed by Diana Carman. 4. Sue Bugalski demonstrates the speed and accuracy which led her to the number one position at Canyon. 5. Cindee Rayman returns a powerful serve. 6. Strug- gling to make the return is Robin Burke.
