After dominating the Orange League, Canyon's varsity cross-country team moved up into the tough Century League. Canyon adjusted well with a season record of 6-1. Canyon finished second to a tough Foothill team but dominated all of its other opponents. With its strong runners, Canyon com- posed an overall record of 12-2. Led by seniors Lynda Berg, Medina Dietrich, Debbie Wolfelt, and Cyndy Morgan, Canyon fin- ished its last five meets by destroying their oppo- nents. Canyon showed great promise going into CIF playoffs. Coach Michael Sayward is looking for- ward to dominating the Century League in years to come. Overall, the team was very young with many juniors. These juniors should lead the team to an- other winning season next year. The Most Valuable was All Century League run- ner Lynda Berg. Showing most improvement was Debbie Wolfelt who captured this award. Commenting on the overall season, Mike Say- ward said, Many girls have been very consistent in practice and have refused to quit trying and are, consequently, becoming very good runners. 1. Patty Parker and Elke Giesen finish a tough race. 2. Cyndy Morgan shows good form during a race. 3. Lynda Berg, one of Canyon's best runners, is all alone out in front. 4. VARSITY CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM-front row: P. Garcez, D. Wolfelt, P. Parker, M. Galvin, L. Roussevep back row: Coach Sayward, L. Berg, C. Morgan, E. Giesen, L. Mann, M. Dietrich, K. Vollmer. 5. Debbie Wolfelt runs hard in a meet against Santa Ana. 6. Strain shows on the face of Mary Calvin as she runs the tough Canyon course. 7. Medina Dietrich keeps up her good pace throughout the long race. 196 Ag M.,-. 1 ., -..,..--- 05:7 1' ' - 1 ..,. .f:.-:hm-Q . :un 2... 321 ,A .- X '-9' -in I l j 2 VARSITY CROSS-COUNTRY flow score winsj CHS OPPONENT 21 SANTA ANA 36 40 FOOTHILL 19 26 TUSTIN 29 16 S.A.
