Although the team lost many fine seniors last year, returning lettermen were seniors Chuck Lay and Kevin Kiene, and juniors Paul Ballas and Kirk Staf- ford. Headed by Coach Ted Ondracek, the Varsity team ended their season with many great victories, and a season record of 14 wins, 5 losses. Paul Ballas made league, and receiving Honorable Mention was Ron Che- ser. The Varsity players finished fourth in their league. The Sophomore team ended their season with 7 wins and 4 losses. 1. After dominating the Orange League, Canyon's varsity cross-country team moved up into the tough Century League. Canyon adjusted well with a season record of 6-1. Canyon finished second to a tough Foothill team but dominated all of its other opponents. With its strong runners, Canyon com- posed an overall record of 12-2. Led by seniors Lynda Berg, Medina Dietrich, Debbie Wolfelt, and Cyndy Morgan, Canyon fin- ished its last five meets by destroying their oppo- nents. Canyon showed great promise going into CIF playoffs. Coach Michael Sayward is looking for- ward to dominating the Century League in years to come. Overall, the team was very young with many juniors. These juniors should lead the team to an- other winning season next year. The Most Valuable was All Century League run- ner Lynda Berg.
