The theme for this year's Winter Formal was, ap- propriately, Midnight Magic, for this night did in- deed prove to be a magical experience. The 348 people in attendance swayed and dipped to the melodious sounds of Primo at the Quality Inn in Orange. Highlighting the evening was the introduction of the 1979 Winter Formal court and the subsequent crowning of the King and Queen. This year's court consisted of princesses Diane Blume and Marian Miller, princes Mark Short and Bill Gordon, Queen Cathy Hancock and King Randy Kunert. The Senior Class should be sincerely congratulated for such a memorable evening of magic 1. Queen Cathy Hancock touches her crown in disbelief, while King Randy Kunert gazes into the distance, wrapped in royal dreams. 2. Foreign exchange student Marty Duno and her date appear transfixed by the pattern in the dance floor. 3. The 1979 Winter Formal Court: Princess Diane Blume, Prince Mark Short, King Randy Kunert, Queen Cathy Hancock, Prince Bill Gordon and Princess Marian Miller. 4. This couple appears to be enjoying the midnight magic promised by the Senior Class. 5. Mike Rosen and his escort for the evening take a breather from the moving tunes of Primo . 126

The egg was the main event in a class called Con- temporary Family Living. The class was taught by Ms. Carol Gressingh and Mr. Bob Schermerhorn. Ms. Gressingh was quoted as saying that it was, A lesson in tender, loving care. The egg represented a child because of its fragility. The students were to treat the egg as a child. The assignment was actually a lesson in responsibility to let the student become aware of life after children. A new addition to the Home Economic Depart- ment at Canyon was Child Care. It taught girls the an of taking care of children. The first four weeks were spent doing book work. The class visited pre- schools to see how they handled the problems. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the class had the children on Canyon's Campus. On Wednesdays the class went to the preschool. Every member of the class had a turn at teaching the kids which included snacktime and free play. Taken as a whole, the class was a learning experience. 1. The egg, the chicken's most fragile production. 2. Kim Sheba- nek's baby was well-loved. 3. Chris Cavazos romps on the floor with Tracy Alarcon. 4. Birthday girl Tracy Alarcon has the camera pointed out to her by Della Cartwright. 5. Mrs. Nancy Voyles, Canyon's home economics and child care development instructor. 6. Kristi Zeller climbs through the toys as Kim MacK- esty watches. 7. Phillip Mitchum careens down a slide during a party in child development class. 128 I'll always remember hard boiled eggs and milk. -Della Cartwright
