Some of the invitational festivals were the Golden West College Festival and the prestigious Chapman College Festi- val. Various adjudicators, or judges, of the choirs in- cluded such noted musicians as Dr. Howard Swan of Occidental College and Dr. Charles Hirt of the University of Southern California. The community events in which the choirs participated were Christ- mas carolling, performing for various clubs and or- ganizations and visiting convalescent homes. ln ad- dition, the choirs also performed at junior high and high school assemblies. In summing up the '78-'79 school year, director Bill Mac McMillian said, Due to heavy gradu- ation Iosses last year, all the choirs are unusually young. This has been a growing year, and I am proud of our student musicians. I would also like to express my admiration and appreciation to our staff accompianist, Paul Pew, and Caroline Hong, our fine student accompianistf' 1. Members of Canyon's outstanding band concentrate on their music as they practice performance material. 2.'Flutists Karen King and Laura Lowder experience the thrills of musical delight during class. 3. Scott Stoddard, Kathy Wilbrecht, and Bill Carteel really jump into the beat to prepare for an outstanding assembly. 4. Enjoying the atmosphere of lively music is Margi Mooney, Christy Gleenn, Debbie Lamplighter, along with one of Canyon's talented drummers. 5. George Woods and Becky Brown try to achieve harmony during Concert Choir. 6. Carla Edmonds peeks from behind to exemplify proper jaw placement. 7. julie Bair and Steve Kouri make beautiful music together during choir practice. EIIIEIEI I I EI IS 117
