During the 1978-1979 school year, the Canyon High School Marching Comanche Band Partici- pated in many bands reviews, concerts, and festi- vals. On October 28, the 90-member band took fourth place trophy at the Chino Band Review. They then went on to the West Arcadia Band Review to com- pete against such bands as: Glen A. Wilson, Es- tancia, Colton, Villa Park, and Sunny Hills. They also performed with the choral groups, in the CHS Win- ter Concert. Their next trip was to Magic Mountain on january 13. There they marched through the main streets and spent the rest of the day at the amusement park. On March 21 and 22 the band sponsored the Southern California School Band and Orchestra As- sociation's QSCSBOAJ music festival. Most of the in- strumental music groups in the Orange Unified School District participated. They were required to play two or three pieces of 'music which were judged by three outstanding musical educators. On Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6, the March- ing Comanches spent the weekend in San Diego. During Saturday, they participated in the National City Band Review and spent the night at the Dana Inn. The last parade of the year was the Orange May Festival. ln competition with Canyon were Villa Park, El Modena, and Orange. 114
